Automotive wiring diagnostic and repair

Faulty vehicle wiring is a major issue in vehicles today, due to cars being dependent on so many modules, to work efficiently and without fault. A vehicle can be presented to us for many reasons with a wiring issue.
Most often the vehicle has been involved in a collision and is in a body shop or garage. Behind all body panels on all cars, there is hundreds of metres of electrical wiring, either single wires or wires encompassed in a loom.
In the unfortunate case of a collision, the panels can be pushed in, or misshapen, and the wires that are hidden behind the panels can be crushed, stretched or simply severed.

ACC are able to identify damaged wires using specific tools and repair them accordingly

Rodents can damage vehicle wires. We frequently encounter chewed wires in vehicles that are either parked in rural areas or have been left undisturbed for an extended period of time.

Rodent damage is particularly difficult to trace and repair because they don’t just chew through one wire; they do it in multiple places, and not neatly. As a result, it can be challenging to identify rodent-damaged wires, as there may be multiple breaks throughout the vehicle. In some cases, it may be easier and more cost-effective for the customer if we replace the entire loom or part of it.

Plug or connector damage typically occurs when wires are stretched, poorly routed after a repair, or crushed in a collision. ACC can remove and re-wire a plug as long as the plug itself isn’t damaged. In the case of a damaged plug, we are able to source a new one and have access to wiring diagrams to ensure it is correctly rewired.

Corroded wiring can be more difficult to diagnose. This type of damage occurs when wiring is installed incorrectly, or from poor previous repairs, allowing moisture or air to penetrate the copper strands, causing oxidation. This oxidation turns the copper brown or green. While this may not immediately affect the conductivity of the wire, if left untreated, it can lead to weakening and eventual breakage.

ACC Calibration & Coding has the expertise and tools to diagnose, trace, and repair wiring, plugs, and looms as necessary. We can perform the work at your convenience, either at your workshop or garage.
