The DIFFERENCE BETWEEN CALIBRATED, AND CALIBRATED PROPERLY
Any calibration “expert” can calibrate the front radar, if they have the right tools, the right software, and the knowledge how to use them together.
But, just because its calibrated, doesn’t mean its calibrated properly.
And you, the paying customer, are reliant on the fact that the Technician is telling you its calibrated properly. but how do you know?
The fact that the warning light has gone out, tells you there has been a successful calibration carried out.
What it doesn’t tell you, is what angles are stored in the cars computer, and it is basing its functionability on these stored angles being within the allowed parameters. And they must be , otherwise it wouldnt calibrate!
What it doesnt tell you is how close to those parameters it is . A lot of adjustable bracket radars have an allowed tolerance of about 2.5 degrees either way. Service information tells us the actual figure for each car. if the car was calibrated and the angle was -2.49 degrees, it will still calibrate successfully , no problem. And if the car is driven with only one occuoant then could possibly be fine. But as soon as that occupant takes the family out for the day, loads the car up with picnic stuff and fills up with fuel, the angle of the radar will change enough that it will fault agani. And when you take it back to be recalibrated , it will once again, calibrate fine.
When we calibrate a car with an adjustable radar, we check to see what the allowable parameters are and adjust the radar to a midway point between the upper and lower limits.
Then when we have completed the calibration, the certificate will show us the angle that the radar has calibrated at. If it is midway , we know its in the very best possible position, if not, we adjust accordingly and re calibrate, again checking the angles on the certificate in accordance with service infiormation.
We always give the customer a calibration certificate, and explain these angles where applicable.
Make sure you know that it has been calibrated properly, and allways ask for a certificate
