To Calibrate or not To Calibrate

Do you have a safety camera on your front windscreen? Do you know what it is for? Many people don’t!

This triangular shaped camera next to your interior mirror can serve many purposes, Road Sign Recognition, Emergency Autonomous Braking (AEB), Lane Departure Warning (LDW), Lane Keep Assist, Night Vision, and Adaptive Lighting.

This camera is fitted to a special bracket fixed to your windscreen and was calibrated in the factory to be work with optimum settings.

When your windscreen is changed it sits on a bead of glue and can be up to five millimetres off centre, which is perfectly acceptable. But what this means is that the ADAS Camera might not be in the exact position that it was when it left the factory.

To maintain full function ability this camera now needs calibrating to its new position in the car, using a sophisticated system mirroring what was done when it was manufactured in the factory.

If the camera system isn’t calibrated, then the systems that it operated will fail to function correctly, which could result in a collision with either a car or a pedestrian.

Now fast forward to an insurance claim for the accident, it could be found that the windscreen had been changed but without having the ADAS Camera calibrated afterwards. This could be classed as negligence, and could invalidate any claim.

For this reason we are now able to offer the full package , from sourcing the correct screen for your vehicle, fitting the windscreen and then calibrating the new camera position to the ECU.

Included in this service will be printed certificate to keep with your vehicle documents , that will be as important as a valid MOT and Insurance Certificate.
